As ESAC’s inception demonstrates, AI is already shaping the way research, diagnostics, and clinical care are practiced across Europe and beyond.
The POST-ESMO AI: ESAC Perspective, from Berlin to Milan symposium is designed to capture this momentum and bring ESAC’s input on the discussions held during ESMO AI & Digital Oncology Congress 2025 (12-14 November 2025 in Berlin – link).
The objective will be to provide a comprehensive overview of the discussions and translating those inputs into actionable, concrete discussions for clinicians, researchers, and patients. The meeting will guide participants through the most important advances in artificial intelligence presented in Berlin and re-examine them from ESAC’s multidisciplinary perspective.
The symposium will open with a session dedicated to a panorama of the fundamentals of AI, offering participants a clear introduction to key principles and the most relevant applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare today. The focus will then shift to AI in cancer diagnostics, highlighting how technologies such as radiomics and digital pathology are reshaping the diagnostic process, and an equally central part with the assessment and practicals of multimodal data integration.
Finally, the day will close with an exploration of the ethical and regulatory aspects of AI adoption in oncology. This session will address critical issues including data protection, bias, transparency, and the broader legal implications of bringing AI into the healthcare setting.
