Who we are

The European Interdisciplinary Society for AI in Cancer Research (ESAC) is committed to advancing the responsible integration of artificial intelligence in oncology through collaboration, education, and innovation. By bringing together experts from clinical oncology, computational sciences, imaging, pathology, bioinformatics, and policy, ESAC fosters multidisciplinary research and supports the development of AI solutions that are scientifically rigorous, ethically sound, and clinically relevant.

Our goal is to create a dynamic, cross-disciplinary community that drives meaningful progress in cancer research and care.

A network of networks

ESAC is building the bridge between clinical practice, scientific innovation, and digital transformation—acting as a network of networks to connect researchers, institutions, and initiatives across Europe and beyond.

As a multidisciplinary society, ESAC aims to bridge institutions, research initiatives, EU infrastructures, and findings from research projects to ensure that AI in cancer research develops in a cohesive, collaborative, and impactful way.

OUR TENETS

EDUCATION

Equipping the next generation of researchers and clinicians with the skills to navigate AI in oncology is one of ESAC’s central goals. We design and deliver training programs, workshops, webinars, and summer schools tailored to real-world challenges in cancer care and research.

Our educational efforts focus not just on technical tools, but on building shared literacy between medical and technical communities.

ESAC promotes lifelong learning and interdisciplinary mentorship, empowering professionals to critically engage with AI and shape its application in cancer research.

COLLABORATION

ESAC was created to act as a connector across Europe’s cancer research ecosystem. We collaborate with academic institutions, EU-funded consortia, hospitals, and research infrastructures, positioning ourselves as a neutral platform for coordination and joint action.

By aligning efforts and sharing resources, we amplify the impact of existing initiatives and accelerate the responsible adoption of AI technologies in oncology.

ESAC actively engages in policy dialogue, standard-setting, and knowledge exchange, ensuring cohesion across national and European research priorities.

MULTIDISCIPLINARITY

At the heart of ESAC is the belief that impactful innovation in cancer research requires more than technological advancement – it demands collaboration across disciplines. We bring together experts from clinical oncology, AI, imaging, pathology, genomics, bioinformatics, and ethics, creating a shared space where ideas intersect, solutions are co-designed, and new insights emerge.

ESAC fosters this dialogue to ensure that AI-driven tools are not only technically sound but also clinically meaningful, ethically responsible, and patient-focused.

Want to join the community ?

We are just starting out – now is a great time to be involved in ESAC’s initiatives. More information on working groups, projects and collaborations, events and training programs will be available soon, in the meantime feel free to reach out, register as a member, and write us with collaboration ideas.

We are particularly keen to starting fellowships in our partner institutions.
